I am an experienced, fully-qualified and accredited psychotherapist and counsellor. I work with many different issues, ranging from anxiety to depression and personality disorders, as well as relationship problems, bereavement, anger issues and eating disorders. I am experienced in working with clients with issues surrounding infertility and childlessness, and wrote my MA dissertation on circumstantial childlessness. This is when someone has the biological ability to have children and wants or wanted to have them, but for reasons of circumstance this has not happened. In my experience, this is a little discussed but growing social phenomenon. I also have experience in trauma work.
I have full professional indemnity insurance and am regularly supervised. I follow my accrediting body, the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP) Code of Ethics.
I have a Masters Degree and an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Minster Centre, one of the foremost psychotherapy training institutes in the UK, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Psychotherapy from Regent's College. I also have a Professional Development Certificate in Mindfulness Practice. I am an accredited member of the UKCP, and I abide by their ethical guidelines.
I also have a BA from the University of Bristol.
I did my psychiatric placement at the Priory Hospital in Roehampton, and have worked as an honorary psychotherapist at the Mind Body Practice in Devonshire Street in Central London and the Wandsworth Association of Psychotherapists. For three years, I ran a low-cost psychotherapy practice, Life Therapy, that provided low-cost counselling and psychotherapy to those on a low income.
An important part of training is undergoing psychotherapy as a client and I have spent several years in psychotherapy. This gives me an insight into some of the fears and difficulties that you might have in coming to therapy.
Formerly, I worked as a television journalist, specialising in politics and foreign affairs. My experience working with people from conflict zones gave rise to my interest in post-traumatic stress disorder, and contributed to my interest in psychotherapy.
I currently work from two practices, one in Parsons Green in Fulham, West London, SW6, and the other in Harley Street in Central London, W1. Both are conveniently located for tubes and buses.
